The Apprentice: You're Fired

It was an absolute joy to work closely with the mighty Jack Dee and Romesh Ranganathan; writing the script and talking into Jack’s earpiece from the gallery, and sending Romesh on various escapades. As series producer I brought in new features, such as meeting The Apprentice’s never-seen, yet familiar faces, like the nice people who run the Bridge Café. Sir Alan once told me I was very organised.

If you want to show off your knowledge of vintage Quality Street wrappers, marvel at the shocking hygiene on 1970s' cookery programmes, and watch Debbie McGee attempt to wrap a football, this is the show for you.

All About Two

Given the opportunity to make a montage of Sir David Attenborough moments, who among us could resist using Circle of Life from The Lion King as the music? (I want to make it clear that absolutely no disrespect to the wonderful man was intended.)

I’ve included this for fans of, or those who until now were unaware of, the frankly mind-blowing phenomenon that is Jilly Goolden’s career as a TV wine critic. We need more of this.

All About Two

For a programme celebrating 50 years of BBC2, I made short VT montages of some of the channel’s most famous shows, like the original Bake Off.

Combining my experience of producing panel shows with my love of nostalgia was exciting enough, but I also got to film in a state-of-the-art virtual studio: EVERYTHING you see in this clip apart from the desks and the guests (and the Angel Delight) is digitally generated! Throw in the thrill of working with Su Pollard, and this was a dream of a job.

Who doesn't love a montage?

A League Of Their Own

I survived two series of this outrageously massive show (on an impressively steep learning curve starting from pretty much zero in terms of sports knowledge). I witnessed the invention of the 'Mobot' pre London 2012, reassured a dangling Ronnie O'Sullivan that the pyrotechnics in the rocket he was being lowered into studio on were perfectly safe, and once accidentally kissed Jamie Redknapp on the cheek.

Having worked on a few series of the original 8 Out Of 10 Cats early in my career, coming back to produce this was brilliant fun - and seeing the actual Countdown clock in real life is surprisingly thrilling. I was instrumental in getting a pretty new Joe Lycett his first spot in Dictionary Corner, a memory I enjoyed many years later when I started working for Matt Baker's company.

Having worked on the show since series 1, I produced series 5, where this clip is from. I wrote the Cuddle Jumper story, and persuaded a very dubious Nick Hewer to come on the show. (The producer of Countdown later told me they approached Nick to be the host after seeing him on WILTY?. As yet, no fee has been discussed.)

Yes, Claudia Winkleman now has a chat show, but this was its glorious forerunner - a chaotic, tv version of Claudia's own personal parlour game, where crucial decisions were made about what was the 'king of' everything from jobs to musical instruments to TV chefs. I've chosen a clip featuring a heated debate about the king of things to put on toast.
